Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis is a form of arthritis in children that causes swelling and stiffness in their joints. This disease mostly affects children who are sixteen years of age or younger. This disease causes inflammation of the synovium in children. The synovium is a tissue that is present inside the joints and helps them to function properly. This disease is also known as Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis (JRA). This type of arthritis is considered an auto-immune disorder. The immune system inside our body protects our body from foreign substances. But when for some reason, the immune system protecting the body itself starts attacking the healthy tissues and cells of the body, due to that attack these tissues and healthy cells start getting destroyed. For this reason, when the synovium tissue gets damaged as a result of an attack by the immune system, a disease like Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis begins to occur. As a result, there is a problem of swelling, stiffness, redness, heat, pain, etc. in the joints for a long time. Some children may experience symptoms for only a few months, while others may have symptoms for many years.

Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis occurs in children when their body's immune system attacks its own cells and tissues. It is difficult to know why the immune system is impaired in children who develop this disease, but some risk factors may be responsible for affecting the function of their immune system, including -
A baby's immune system may be compromised due to certain genetic factors. A family history of autoimmune disease puts the child at higher risk. The risk of developing this type of autoimmune disease is linked to mutations in the child's HLA gene, affecting about a third of children.
Girls are almost three times more likely than boys to get an autoimmune disease, with teenage girls and young women at the highest risk. This is the reason why Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis most commonly affects young girls.
Young age helps increase the risk of this disease. Most autoimmune diseases affect young and middle-aged people. Some diseases typically begin in childhood, including Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis and Juvenile dermatitis.
Children with one autoimmune disease have a higher risk of developing another. For example, children with type 1 diabetes are more likely to develop celiac disease or Addison's disease, or similar health conditions that can trigger their Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis.
Infection with certain types of viruses, bacteria, and toxins present in the environment makes children prone to autoimmune disorders. Due to which this condition increases the chances of Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis among many other problems.

This type of Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis affects some of the joints in children. This type of Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis affects about 50% of children. Girls under 8 years of age are more likely to develop oligoarticular. It is also known as pauciarticular and monoarticular. It usually affects only one joint of the child, including their knee or ankle. In some cases, it affects more than one joint in the child, which can be four or more. Symptoms are common in the eyes. Most often this arthritis is very mild and over time, the symptoms may subside or may be completely removed.
This type of Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis affects about 30% of children, mostly girls. It affects more than five joints in children, including their hands and feet. Usually, the affected joints are on both sides of the body. This type of juvenile arthritis can also affect large joints. The more severe form of the disease occurs in children with a certain antibody called immunoglobulin M (IgM) in the blood to the rheumatoid factor (RF). In polyarticular, this IgM RF antibody starts attacking the body's tissues. Common symptoms include swelling of the hands and toes.
Systemic Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis can be seen in about 20% of children. This type of Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis causes swelling, pain, and limited range of motion in at least one joint in children. The affected child has had a high fever for more than 2 weeks. Additional symptoms include rash and swelling in internal organs such as the heart, liver, spleen, and lymph nodes. If a child with the systemic disease is not treated adequately, many of their joints can develop severely over a long period.
