Cerebral Palsy Treatment

Overview

Cerebral palsy is a condition in which a group of disorders affects the muscles that control movement and gestures. This disease develops as a result of weakness in the muscles associated with the brain, due to which the sufferer starts having problems while using his brain. This disease usually develops when there is an injury to a part of the baby's brain before birth, or it is mostly due to prenatal damage that occurs when the immature brain is developing. Most babies are born with cerebral palsy hence it is also known as congenital cerebral palsy. But sometimes in children, it can start even after birth. Infants or children below the age of four usually experience symptoms of this disease during the preschool years or infancy. Depending on the condition of the disease in different children, mild to severe symptoms may appear. The symptoms of this disease neither increase nor worsen with time. But children suffering from it have to face many types of brain abnormalities.

Cerebral palsy (CP) is a group of neurological disorders that affect movement, muscle tone, and coordination. It is caused by abnormalities or damage to the developing brain, often occurring before or during birth, or in early childhood. The specific symptoms and severity of cerebral palsy can vary widely from person to person. Common symptoms include difficulty with muscle control, coordination, balance, and posture, which can lead to challenges in activities such as walking, speaking, and fine motor tasks.

Ayurveda, a traditional system of medicine from India, focuses on holistic approaches to health and well-being. Ayurvedic treatments for cerebral palsy, some Ayurvedic principle might be considered to provide supportive care for individuals with CP:

  • Help improve circulation and relaxation

  • Manage muscle stiffness and tension

  • Help improve mobility and muscle function

  • Enhance overall wellbeing.

Complication Prevention

In Ayurveda, cow urine has a special place that is also helpful for diseases like cerebral palsy. Our years of committed work prove that with our herbal medicines, some symptoms of cerebral palsy almost disappear. Victims tell us that they feel a big improvement in difficulty swallowing, difficulty speaking, muscle spasms, muscle stiffness, tremors or involuntary movements, slow movements, tilted body movements, inability to control urination, difficulty in hearing, impaired vision, poor mental health, difficulty in walking, excessive salivation, difficulty in learning, mouth diseases, unusual tactile or painful sensations and seizures. If we talk about life expectancy, cow urine therapy itself is a big hope. Any disease, whether it is small in scale or at a critical stage, will have a negative impact on the human body and it will exist for several years, sometimes even a lifetime. Once the disease is identified, the life expectancy is very short, but not with cow urine therapy. Our ancient therapy not only relieves the disease but also prolongs the person’s lifespan without leaving any toxins in the body. This is our ultimate goal.

Reducing Drug Dependency

“Sarve bhavantu sukhinah, Sarve santu niramayah, Sarve bhadrani pashyantu, Maa kaschit dukha bhag bhavet" means let all be joyful, let    all be free of sickness, let all see the reality, let no one suffer." We want our culture to be like this by adopting this saying. Our therapy accomplishes this by providing efficient care, enhancing the life expectancy of affected patients, and reducing drug dependency. In this new age, our treatment has more benefits and fewer risks than any medicinal solutions available. There are more benefits and nil risks to our therapy.

Reducing Recurrence Chances

In comparison to wide-ranging general practice, we concentrate on the underlying cause of the disease and causes that may increase the chances of recurrence of the disease rather than relying exclusively on disease control. We are effectively decreasing recurrence rates by implementing this approach and providing a different path to the lives of people so that they can live their lives mentally and physically in a healthier way.

Causes of Cerebral Palsy

Cerebral palsy usually occurs before the birth of children due to blockages in the development of the brain, for which many reasons can be responsible -

  • Infection

Sometimes some kind of bacterial infection of the mother such as rubella, syphilis, chickenpox, etc, infects the developing fetus in the uterus, by which the maturing muscles are damaged and the born child has to face the problem of cerebral palsy. Inflammation in the brain and surrounding areas due to the infection of the baby also makes them develop this disease.

  • Injury

A child's severe head injury also weakens the muscles of parts of their brain, causing them to face the problem of cerebral palsy. This injury can be due to an accident or a blow to the head when the child falls from a height, which can cause such mental disorder to the child.

  • Certain health conditions

Certain diseases or health conditions that a baby has before or after birth can increase the risk of cerebral palsy, including fetal trauma resulting in a lack of blood supply to the baby's developing brain, severe jaundice, bleeding in the brain in the womb, or as newborn, bacterial meningitis, lack of oxygen to the brain related to difficult labor or delivery, etc.

  • Pregnancy and birth problems

Certain complications that occur during childbirth may be responsible for an increased risk of cerebral palsy. Complications such as premature birth, excessively low birth weight, breech birth of the baby, multiple births at the same time can lead to cerebral palsy.

  • Mother's health problems

Certain infections transmitted to the mother during pregnancy can significantly increase the baby's risk of cerebral palsy.  if a woman gets serious infections like cytomegalovirus, toxoplasmosis, german measles, herpes, zika virus during her pregnancy, it is possible that the problem of cerebral palsy in the born baby is due to these infections.

  • Other reason

Mother's exposure to toxins such as methyl mercury during pregnancy, including thyroid problems, Rh disease, an incompatibility between the mother's blood and her fetus that can cause brain damage, congenital malformations, intellectual disabilities, or seizures are other causes of cerebral palsy which may be helpful in increasing their risk.

Prevention from Cerebral Palsy

Some measures taken by women can reduce the risk of this disease for their children, which include -

  • To protect themselves from some serious infections, women must get the vaccinations available from time to time.
  • Women should take special care of their health during pregnancy.
  • During pregnancy, women should consume a nutritious diet and avoid taking excessive stress.
  • Mothers should take special care of their baby's safety so that no serious injury can happen to their brain.
  • Women who have habits like consumption of alcohol, tobacco, smoking, etc. should completely give up all these habits during their pregnancy.
  • During the period of pregnancy, a woman should check herself and her child's health from time to time so that any problems related to the birth of the child can be prevented.

Symptoms of Cerebral Palsy

Symptoms of cerebral palsy include -

  • Difficulty swallowing food
  • Having trouble speaking
  • Musculoskeletal
  • Muscle stiffness
  • Jerks or involuntary movements
  • Slow movements
  • Bow down
  • Inability to control urination
  • Having problems with the mouth
  • Hearing loss
  • Not able to see properly
  • Poor mental health
  • Difficulty walking
  • Excessive salivation
  • Hard to learn
  • Having diseases of the mouth
  • Unusual tactile or pain sensation
  • Seizures

Types of Cerebral Palsy

There are mainly four types of cerebral palsy in children, which include -

1. Spastic cerebral palsy

Spastic cerebral palsy can be seen in about 80% of children. In this type of cerebral palsy, the muscles become very rigid, which impedes the child's movements such as walking. It is divided into three subtypes depending on the organs affected. -

  • Spastic diplegia: This affects the lower part of the body in which both the legs of children are affected. In spastic diplegia, the muscles of the hips and legs become too tight, by which the muscles of the thighs begin to twist inward and form a scissor shape that crosses the knees, which is also known as scissoring. This problem makes it very difficult for children to walk.
  • Spastic hemiplegia: In this condition, only one part of the body is affected, in which most of the children's hands are more affected than the legs and they have difficulty in raising their hands, lifting things, etc.
  • Spastic quadriplegia: This is a severe form of spastic cerebral palsy that affects both the upper and lower limbs of the body. This condition often affects all four limbs and trunks, along with the muscles that control the mouth and tongue. Children also have to face problems like intellectual disability, seizures, hearing problems, speech and vision problems.

2. Dyskinetic cerebral palsy

It is the second most common type of cerebral palsy, affecting about 20% of children. Dyskinetic cerebral palsy affects the entire body of children, causing them to have three types of problems:

  • Dystonic: Frequent speaking or difficulty speaking
  • Choriohetoid: Inability to walk properly, stagger and balance
  • Athetosis: Difficulty writing, inability to balance hands

3. Ataxic cerebral palsy

This is the least common type of cerebral palsy, occurring in only 10% of children. It affects balance and coordination of the body, causing children to have difficulty walking, speaking, eating, or making sudden movements.

4. Mixed cerebral palsy

Mixed cerebral palsy is a very rare form of cerebral palsy affecting less than 10% of children. It is a combination of at least two forms of spastic, dyskinetic, and ataxic cerebral palsy whose mixed symptoms are seen in children.

Complications of Cerebral Palsy

Children with cerebral palsy may also have to face many other complications, including -

  • Excessive stiffness causes the muscles to contract so much that they become smaller in size, resulting in stunted bone growth, bone twisting, which can result in joint deformity, dislocation, or partial dislocation.
  • Due to the extreme difficulty in eating and swallowing, the necessary nutrients are not able to reach the body of children and they start falling prey to malnutrition.
  • Due to malnutrition, the growth of children stops and their bones start becoming very weak.
  • Children may have a permanent disability.
  • One can suffer from a number of mental health conditions such as depression, social isolation, and disabilities.
  • A child with cerebral palsy can develop heart disease and lung disease and breathing disorders.
  • Due to the pressure on the joints, painful degenerative bone disease can start in the victim.
