Baheda

The antioxidants present in Baheda fight against free radicals and prevent brain cell damage. Baheda also improves the concentration of neurotransmitters (mediators which help in signal transmission) in the brain and thus helps in managing depression and anxiety.

Shatavari

Shatavari is used in Ayurveda to treat depression. The antioxidants in Shatavari have strong antidepressant abilities. It also impacted neurotransmitters in the brain.

Mulethi

Causes of Depression

There are many reasons why people with depression may have this condition which directly affects their mood. These reasons can be -

  • Hormonal changes

  • Seasonal changes

Many types of changes in the weather can also be responsible for depression. The mood of the person changes according to the changing season. During the rainy season, most of the people experience indifference. In the winter, the person remains uninterested in physical activity. However, all these seasonal changes are a short-term reason for depression which ends in a short period of time.

  • Serious illnesses

In some circumstances, depression arises on its own with serious illnesses. If a person has been suffering from a serious illness and pain for a long time, he may have depression. Consumption of certain medicines may be responsible for increasing the risk of depression to a person called isotretinoin which is used to treat acne or some antiviral drugs like interferon-alpha and corticosteroids cause him to suffer from depression. 

  • Drug abuse

Drug abuse can play an important role in a person’s life who is suffering from depression. Alcohol intoxication can be a risk factor for a person's depressive disorder. Drugs like heroin, cocaine eventually act to increase a person's depression.

  • People suffering from depression need to pay attention to their diet. They should consume healthy, rich and nutritious food and excessive intake of fruits and vegetables daily.
  • One should regularly do activities like walk, exercise, workout and yoga.
  • One should spend more and more time with his family, relatives, friends and loved ones.
  • Depressed persons should meditate.
  • One should renounce habits like drug abuse.
  • One should spend his day in a natural environment.
  • One should get enough sleep.
  • One should participate more and more in social festivals, gatherings and events.
  • Some activities should be done by the person which makes them happy. Such as listening to music, reading books, travelling or fulfilling their hobbies.
  • One should try to convert his negative thinking into positive.

Symptoms of Depression

Different symptoms of depression emerge in every person. It depends on how and what the depressed person feels. Based on this, several common symptoms of depression can be:

  • Sad and worried for a long time

  • Sleep too much or too little
  • Feels alone all the time
  • Indifference to social activities

Types of Depression

The person may have the following types of depression -

  • Major depressive disorder

If a person remains depressed and in deep despair for a long time, then it is a major depressive disorder. The person is unable to put his mind to work for a long time. There are many changes in the mood and behavior of a person suffering from the major depressive disorder which affects their life.

  • Persistent depressive disorder

A persistent depressive disorder is also known as dysthymia. It occurs when a person starts feeling disinterested to live his life. The person starts feeling very depressed. The duration of this problem can last for years in which a person has to face many problems like low appetite, insomnia, loss of energy, difficulty in concentration etc.

  • Manic Depression

Manic depression is also called bipolar depression. This condition has a very bad effect on the mental health of the person. The person starts getting many negative thoughts. There is a sudden change in the behavior of the person. Sometimes a person feels very happy and sometimes experiences a lot of grief. The person who is surrounded by this depression for a long time, starts having negative thoughts like suicide.

  • Postpartum Depression

Most of the women suffer from this problem during her pregnancy. Women who have this problem are very much prone to suffer from major depression in their later life too. This condition can last for several months. In which they start having problems with children, excessive irritability, lack of sleep and loss of appetite. Such symptoms can also be found in a child of pregnant women.

  • Seasonal affective disorder

The changes that occur during the change in the weather result in a seasonal affective disorder. Every year the changes in the weather make a person suffer from this kind of situation. The symptoms of despair, fatigue, irritability, lack of interest in work may appear in this condition.  Many people suffer from such depression in the winter season and many people in the summer season.

  • Atypical Depression

Atypical depression is a subtype of major depression that has many unusual symptoms. A person suffering from atypical depression tends to eat too much, gain weight, sleep longer or stay up all night and the person feels more tired and weak. Such individuals become very sensitive and the person's mood is reactive to environmental conditions. A person suffering from this problem does not feel that he is suffering from it.

Complications of Depression 

Individuals suffering from depression may face the following complications -

  • A person becomes addicted to alcohol or drugs.
  • A person can try to commit suicide.
  • The person is immersed in unknown fear and anxiety.
  • Differences happen in a person's mutual relationships, family conflicts, stress etc. 
  • There is a feeling of social isolation in the person.
  • The person tries to harm himself.
  • The person starts having many other physical ailments.
  • A person suffering from atypical depression increases weight by which he may have heart disease or sugar problems.
